SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The reggae band Dub Proof will lead off the Free Concerts in the Park series on July 2 at Flood’s Hill in Meadowland Park.
The concert is the first of five in the Wednesday night series and features Dub Proof, a “groove-oriented” band from Asbury Park. The band plays roots reggae, funky dub and classic reggae covers. All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m., and the rain site is the South Orange Performing Arts Center.
“The concerts feature a wide range of bands and entertainment for the whole family,” Village President Alex Torpey said in announcing the concert series during a recent Board of Trustees meeting.
Audience members are encouraged to bring a chair or a blanket for seating. A number of vendors will provide food and beverages, including lobster rolls and barbecue ribs from St. James Gate, wood-fired pizza from Pizza Vita, and festival fare, including pretzels, hot dogs, deep-fried Oreos and funnel cake from Miele’s concessions.
Other concerts in the series include Mad Headroom, an ‘80s tribute band, on July 9; The Wisenheimers, who play rock, pop and Top 40s hits, on July 16; John Lee & Friends, led by South Orange bassist John Lee, playing jazz, on July 23; and Rock the Hill, featuring local and visiting garage rock bands, on July 30.
The Free Concerts in the Park series is co-presented by South Orange Village, The Baird and the South Orange Performing Arts Center. Funding is provided by BCB Community Bank and Maplecrest Ford-Lincoln. More information can be found on the SOPAC website.
