PATERSON, NJ - Eastside High School will be the site of a basketball tripleheader on Martin Luther King Day. The day will feature several of the top teams in New Jersey, capped by an "Eastside Story" between two teams that entered the weekend undefeated.
The Playaz Basketball Club Freedom Fighters Hoop Challenge will feature both Paterson varsity boys basketball teams. John F. Kennedy (6-4) of Paterson will take on Don Bosco Prep (11-0) in the first game of the day at 3 p.m. Next, at about 4:45 p.m., Hudson Catholic (9-2) of Jersey City will play Plainfield (5-4). Finally, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Eastside (9-0) of Paterson will host Newark East Side (8-0).
Sophomore guard Alphonso Gee leads JFK with 24 points per game and junior guard Jalani Morris is averaging 13 ppg. for the Knights, who are on a five-game winning streak.
Junior Asem Johnson leads Eastside of Paterson with 20 ppg. and senior Shakur Juiston is averaging 13 ppg. for the Ghosts, whose resume this season includes a 49-48 victory over St. Anthony of Jersey City.
