MADISON, NJ - The Friends of the Madison Public Library are making plans for their annual Gala Benefit to be held from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Saturday, March 8 at the Madison Library, 39 Keep St. This year, the Friends and Library Trustees will honor the memory of Laurence G. Taber and William S. Decker, II who were both staunch supporters of the Madison Public Library.
All are invited to attend and catch up with old friends as well as meet new people who share an interest in supporting the library. A variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres will be served along with beer and wine.
Invitations will be mailed to all residents in the Friends’ database. In addition, anyone is welcome to make reservations online at www.friends-mpl.net or in person at the library. Reservations are $50 each; checks can be made payable to Friends of the Madison Public Library and mailed to 39 Keep St., Madison, NJ 07940 along with the rsvp card. Cancelled checks will serve as a receipt; no tickets will be mailed.
Money raised from the Gala and all Friends’ events helps support special library programs, particularly children’s programs, and expanded book and media collections not covered in the library budget. During the past year, the special projects funded by the group included the new book/media drop box, new furniture and six computers in the children’s room, slat wall and furniture for displaying the collection and the Museum Pass Program. Adult education programs sponsored by the Friends include the Drew Minicourses, Tech Tuesdays and Summer Seminars co-sponsored with the Madison Senior Center. Music, movies, poetry, team competition and workshops were popular family events. For information, visit the Friends’ website at www.friends-mpl.net or call the Friends at 973-377-8508.
