FSPY Gymnastics C Team Chalks Up Another Win

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA ‘C’ Division Gymnastics team hosted the teams from Somerset Valley and South Mountain in a meet on Saturday, March 15.  The final team scores saw the hosts in first place with 106.4, followed by Somerset Valley, 105.1 and South Mountain, 97.05.

The gymnasts competed in four age groups: 9 and under, 10 year olds, 11 year olds and, 12 and over.  Three gymnasts from the FSPY team competed in the 9 and under age group.  Ella Platts earned 4th place All Around, supported by her 2nd place on Balance Beam, 3rd on Floor Exercise, 4th on Balance Beam and 6th on Vault.  Fifth place All Around was awarded to Alexandra Dessart who also received 2nd place on Both Vault and Balance Beam.  Jillian Miele earned 6th place All Around, along with 3rd place on Vault, 5th on both Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise and 6th on Balance Beam. 

In the 10 year old age group, 1st place All Around was awarded to Morgan Whitney.  Demonstrating great consistency, Whitney also received 2nd place on all four events, Vault, Bars, Beam and Floor Exercise.  Naomi Southerland earned 2nd place All Around, receiving 1st place on Vault, Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise.  Madalyn McEvoy received 1st place on Balance Beam, 3rd on Uneven Bars and 5th on Vault.  Lauren Fitzgerald captured 3rd place on Balance Beam!

Competing in the 11 year old age group, Che Dashiell was awarded 1st place All Around.  Dashiell also received 1st place on Uneven Bars, 2nd on Vault and Floor Exercise and 4th on Balance Beam.  Twin sister Anina Dashiel captured 2nd place All Around, as well as 1st on Floor Exercise, 2nd on Balance Beam, 3rd on Vault, 4th on Bars.  Zoe Wernsing earned 4th place on both Vault and Floor Exercise.  Marlena Holston tied with her teammate, also earning 4th on Floor Exercise.

Elizabeth Kern earned 1st place All Around in the 12 and over age group.  Kern was also awarded 1st place on Floor Exercise and Uneven Bars, 2nd on Balance Beam and 3rd on Vault.  Nicalina DelRosario captured 2nd place All Around, along with 1st on Balance Beam and 2nd on Vault and Floor Exercise.  Sara Banasiak earned 3rd place on Balance Beam and 4th on Vault.  Katyana Avila competed well on Balance Beam for the team!

The next home meet will be an ‘A & B’ Division meet on Saturday, April 5, 2014.  Registration for the Spring Session of gymnastics classes at the Y opens on Saturday, March 22.  The Spring session runs from April 14 through June 22. 

YMCA Summer Camp registration is now open.  Registration is available online and in person.  Register now and join the fun.  Gymnastics classes offered at the YMCA include, parent-toddler and preschool classes.  Classes for school-age girls are offered Monday through Saturday at the Martine Avenue facility for beginners through advanced levels.  This is a great time to begin taking gymnastics at the YMCA.  Birthday parties are also available.  Please call (908) 889-8880 for more information about gymnastics at the YMCA.
