WEST ORANGE — A person who became trapped in a vehicle engulfed in flames early Sunday morning was pronounced dead at the scene when West Orange police arrived just before 1 a.m., according to the township’s public information officer (PIO).

The PIO also noted that the victim was unidentified, and the vehicle was unrecognizable due to the fully involved car fire, which occurred on Interstate 280 in the area of Pleasant Valley Way.

State police are currently investigating the incident and no identification of the victim was made prior to West Orange fire officials leaving the scene.
