NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – A GoFundMe page set up to help pay the funeral fees for a man stabbed to death on Saturday has raised more than $20,000 in three days.

Segun Thomas, 62, of the Somerset section of Franklin Township, was found stabbed to death on Jan. 16 in a common stairwell of a multi-use building at 243 Hamilton St., according to a statement from the New Brunswick Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to police, Thomas sustained stab wounds to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Noel Rosado, 34, of New Brunswick, has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and tampering with evidence following an investigation by Detective Raymond Quick of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Sean Sullivan of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

“We are all heartbroken and devastated over this tragedy,” according to the GoFundMe page set up by Thomas’ friends. “Segun Thomas was a complete gentleman who came into this country from his native country of Nigeria in 1981 for his University education. He went to Rutgers University in New Brunswick  where he earned a degree in Accounting.  After graduation, he worked for several Fortune 500 companies before starting his own Tax and Accounting firm.

“We are hurting over the loss of this great man. Segun was our pride, our friend, our confidant, bridge builder, buddy and a man of excellent character. He is survived by his wife and three children.”

Records indicate he rented space at 243 Hamilton Street for his accounting business, Dynamic Services.

As of Friday morning, more than $22,000 had been pledged to the GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral expenses.
