ROXBURY - An online fundraiser is gathering money for the family of a former Roxbury High School student who died Oct. 18 in a car crash on Route 80 in Parsippany-Troy Hills.

The GoFundMe site for Julia Wells, 20, was launched Saturday and raised more than $2,050 by today. Its organizers, Amber Brianne and Gaby Castano, hope to raise $10,000 "to help the family with any funeral expenses and honestly just anything we can to help them in this horrible, devastating time."

Wells grew up in Mine Hill, attending Canfield Avenue School. She attended Roxbury High School during her sophomore year, according to friends, who said she has two brothers.

"Julia was my first friend growing up and I couldn’t imagine my childhood without her," said Succasunna resident Samantha Murray, who formerly lived in Mine Hill. "From pizza parties, to Halloween nights, to basketball games, to family beach trips, to games of neighborhood manhunt those are just a few of the best memories we shared together. Her life was taken too young and I can’t believe she is gone."

Authorities have not confirmed the names of those killed in the 1:45 a.m. accident or released any other information. In a statement on the day of the incident, they only said two women and one man died in the multi-vehicle crash, which took place near eastbound mile-marker 45.2.
