April 23, 2013 at 7:24 AM

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Galileo’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria had its Grand Opening celebration on Monday. More than 100 guests attended the festivities including friends, family, local business owners, and community officials. The evening started with a ribbon cutting to formally open the new restaurant.
Co-owners, Steven Karl and Galal Galal hosted the event serving a variety of menu items including several salad choices, Foccacia Sandwich Appetizers, Fresh Mozzarella with Red Peppers, Chicken Marsala, and Pasta alla Vodka. Their specialty pizzas were also served. To complete the meal, several sheet cakes celebrating the restaurant’s opening were enjoyed by guests.
Owner Karl said about the evening, “This looks like a great success and everyone looks happy.”  His partner, Galal Galal agreed. He said, “I am so happy to see so many friends come out tonight.”
Armand Galluccio of the New Providence Town Council enjoyed the Grand Opening.  He had already been to the restaurant quite a few times to eat. “Steve and Galal are great people,” he said.

New Providence Mayor J. Brooke Hern was also at the event to welcome the new business to the community.  He said that Galileo’s has “excellent food and great hospitality.”

Karl’s college roommate, Mike Triano, has been friends with Karl for over 30 years.  He said he was proud and impressed by the restaurant and was “honored” to be invited to the Grand Opening.

One of Galileo’s wait staff, Alex Eberle, said that she enjoys her new job at the restaurant.  She said it is a “great sit-down restaurant.”  Eberle also pointed out that the children who attended the Grand Opening loved the pizzas that were served. She heard one of the young guests say, “This pizza rocks and we want it every Saturday night.”
There are business owners in New Providence who are pleased to see Galileo’s join their community. Stan Dunn of M&M Liquors has been in town for 42 years. Stan and his wife Carol thoroughly enjoyed the event and have eaten a number of times at Galileo’s. Dunn pointed out that the outdoor dining area at the restaurant is the first of its kind in New Providence.
Bill and Chris Ferdinand of Ferdinand Jewelers in New Providence had the opportunity to watch the progress of Galileo’s as it was being constructed.  Bill Ferdinand is a past Chair of New Providence Downtown Improvement Association. He said, “One of the things I like is that the restaurant is classy, yet affordable."
Galileo’s is located on 1288 Springfield Avenue in New Providence. Their hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from  noon until 10 p.m. They have on and off premises catering available for all occasions.
