MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The GenWealth Group, an independent investment advisory, will be hosting its second annual charity event: “GenWealth Walks for Hope” to raise money for breast cancer research, on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Participants will walk a guided three-mile route around and through Maplewood to generate both awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF - www.bcrfcure.org).
The GenWealth Group became involved in this cause when the mother of longtime associate and Chief Operations and Compliance Officer Kim DiBlasi was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in September 2011.
“Having a family member who battles the disease has made me all the more grateful for the overwhelming generosity of people who make donations of their time and money to the cause,” DiBlasi said. It is gratifying to know that my mother is not alone in her fight against this disease.”
Last year the Walk had 65 participants and raised $10,000 for the BCRF. This year, they are hoping for 75 walkers to take part. There will be a pre-walk breakfast, commemorative team t-shirts and special gifts and prizes donated by local merchants.
Participants are asked to make a $50 minimum contribution to BCRF, but may also seek additional donations and sponsors to help the cause even more.
Cherie Leanza, Vice President of the GenWealth Group, said, “Making this a walk instead of a run welcomes all kinds of participants, including cancer survivors.”
Leanza and DiBlasi were assisted in organizing the walk by Risa Olinsky, a Maplewood-based wellness coach.
““The route will be fairly flat, to allow all types of walkers to participate,” said Olinsky, who also leads organized group walking exercise programs in the area.
The Walk is just three weeks away, but there are still spots for more participants. You may learn more and register by clicking here.
