Get Hooked at the 32nd Annual Fishing Derby Day

EDISON, NJ – Mayor Thomas Lankey, the Edison Council, Edison PBA Local 75 and the Edison Recreation Department announce their 2014 version the 32nd Annual Fishing Derby on May 3, from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., at Lake Papaianni in Papaianni Park, Edison.

Lake Papaianni will be stocked with Brook and Rainbow Trout for the event. Any registered fishing derby participant who catches one of the 200 specially tagged fish will be eligible for a prize.

Again this year, there will be a special “Children’s Only Derby” for any registered children up to 15 years of age. This “Kid’s Only” event will begin at 8:00 a.m., one hour before the full Derby gets underway at 9:00 a.m.

Anyone between the ages of 16 and 70 must have a fishing license and a trout stamp. There is a $10.00 entry fee; however, the event is free to Edison Residents age 65 and over with an Edison issued Senior I.D. card.

All Derby registrants may continue to fish throughout the season. If a tagged fish is caught after the derby, you may bring the tag to the Stelton Community Center, 328 Plainfield Avenue, Edison, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to receive a prize.

Edison PBA Local 75 has donated FREE refreshments for all participants. They have also added 25 tagged trout and donated the prizes for those tagged fish.

Applications for the 32nd Annual Fishing Derby are available at the Minnie B. Veal Community Center, 1070 Grove Avenue, the Stelton Community Center, 328 Plainfield Avenue, the Municipal Complex, Township Libraries or at www.EdisonNJ.org.  Applications are available the day of the event.
