AUGUSTA, NJ - Skies are expected to be sunnier Friday with temperatures forecasted at 82 degrees as the first day of the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm & Horse Show kicks off at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

Currently, the forecast for the upcoming days of the fair, which continues through Aug. 11, is sunny and in the upper 70s, with a few days dealing with cloud cover and a chance of thunderstorms.
As crowds pour in from Sussex County and beyond, there are many activities for all to enjoy. Click here to view the full schedule; below is a day by day recap of some of the upcoming happenings.
Friday, Aug. 2 - The opening ceremonies take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at the conservatory. The Horse Show opening ceremonies are scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Horse Show section of the fairgrounds. Throughout the day, there are various forms of entertainment, from Monster Truck Rides in the Miller Lite Outdoor Entertainment Area from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for $7, demonstrations and other fun for the whole family at the RoNetco ShopRite Family Entertainment Area, a diverse lineup of musical entertainment at the Performing Arts Tent, competitions and story time at the agricultural tent, one price admission at the Carnival area from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. for $22 and more.
Saturday, Aug. 3 - One of the major highlights of the day, in addition to all the usual fun, is the Queen of the Fair Pageant from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Horse Show area. In case of inclement weather, the pageant will take place at the Performing Arts Tent. The "Strongest Man at the Fair" contest takes place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m, at the Miller Lite Outdoor Entertainment Area. The event is free to enter and sponsored by Royal Buick GMC.
Sunday, Aug. 4 - The Demolition Derby is a smashing good time and one of the main events, in addition to all the fun and food the fair has to offer. This event is scheduled in the Miller Light Outdoor Entertainment Area from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the admission prices are $10 and $12, in addition to fair entry fees. A free event scheduled for the Miller Light Outdoor Entertainment Area is the PALMRA Lawn Mower Racing from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Another special event, to be held at the Richards Building, is the 18th Annual Sussex County Chili Contest, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 5 - It is "Green Day" at the fair, enjoy green exhibits, demonstrations and other activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Performing Arts Tent, to top off the usual lineup of entertaining things to do.
Tuesday, Aug. 6 - Tuesday is Children's Day with many activities focusing around the younger set, such as cupcake decorating and gingerbread house constructing, the Kiddie Tractor Pull (from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the RoNetco ShopRite Family Entertainment Area) and Favorite Doll and Me look-a-like show (from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.). There is, of course, plenty to do for grown ups this day as well, from musical entertainment to a wine tasting by Georges Wines (from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Tent) and more.
Wednesday, Aug. 7 - Admission is free this day for those who choose to donate blood, which can be done from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., at the bloodmobile outside of gate 2. The Battle of the Bands from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Tent, is one of the many events to take in this day. The Fair Food Contest is another enjoyable event, where fair fare is judged by local notables, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., also in the Performing Arts Tent. A Horseshoe Tournament, a free activity is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with sign-ups beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Miller Light Entertainment Area.
Thursday, Aug. 8 - The Seniors take the spotlight for Seniors Day, which takes place at the Performing Arts Tent from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Seniors enjoy food and fun, and the Senior of the Year for Sussex County is honored. Today again, entries are free for those who donate blood at gate 2.
Friday, Aug. 9 - Another opportunity for a free admission for those who donate blood at gate 2. Among the activities is New Jersey's 8th Annual Best Cheesecake Contest from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Richards Building, with cheesecake sold following the judging. There is other judging of the Jr. & Adult Artistic Classes of Flower & Garden Expo.
Saturday, Aug. 10 - Cheer on your favorite local artists. Sussex County's Got Talent is scheduled at the Performing Arts Tent from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. From 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the Kicken Chickens Costume Contest is in the Shotwell Building, among the many activities scheduled. Admission once again is free for those who donate blood at gate 2.
Sunday, Aug. 11 - The fair fun winds down on the final day. A chainsaw auction, truck pull, auction pull and Home & Hobby Expo are some of the many last events taking place.
