Chatham, NJ - The Gingham Giraffe Preschool is no stranger to change. When the Director opened the school thirty years ago, there were very few nursery schools with an academic focus. "The ultimate goal is to prepare children for Kindergarten. That means socially, emotionally, physically, and academically." With the changing needs of parents in the last thirty years, and especially in the last six months, various programs have been added to the curriculum, including longer days for 2's, optional electives like Drama, Sports and STEM, and full day Junior Kindergarten for parents who prefer their children not to attend K remotely.

“The Pandemic brings new challenges. But children are resilient and adaptable. There are no easy answers here, not for parents, not for teachers. But I truly believe there is no substitute for learning in a classroom, with peers and with trusted adults outside the home." Small group settings stimulate learning while promoting cooperation as well as self-regulation. There is a six month age span in each classroom, so that teachers can create micro-curriculums focusing on what is developmentally appropriate for each age group. "There is very little competition among peers, very little anxiety. We want confidence! We want fun."

Gingham has added classes to accommodate more students; enrollment ends August 15th.
