MADISON, NJ - The Madison Varsity Girls’ Soccer team was eliminated from the Morris County Tournament Sunday morning. Thirteenth-seeded Madison were in the game from start to finish, but twentieth seed Whippany Park ultimately was able to steal the victory.
The Dodgers got several good shots throughout the game, but wasn’t quite able to finish them off. The score was still 0-0 at halftime, however, Whippany Park scored off a shot fumbled around by in the box early on.
Madison looked as though they may tie the game up numerous times in the minutes following. But, on a break away, Whippany Park was able to put in a second goal, leaving the Dodgers just eight minutes to catch up. Although Madison’s defense was able to keep the play around Whippany Park’s goal for much of the end of the game, the final score was 2-0. It was only Madison’s second loss of the season. Their record is now 3-2.
Whippany Park will go on to play fourth-seeded Randolph in the next round. The Dodgers will look to give Hanover Park their first lost of the season with a victory Tuesday afternoon. A win could make Madison first in their conference standings.
