FLEMINGTON, NJ — The Ridge and Hunterdon Central girls soccer teams battled through 100 scoreless minutes before Ridge advances on penalty kicks in the semifinal round of the Central West C tournament on Friday.
In the shootout, Ridge rallied from a 2-1 deficit to prevail, with Katie Keefe knocking in the tiebreaking PK to cap a run of three successful shots in a row for Ridge (7-5-4) in the shootout.
Although Hunterdon Central (12-2-1) is regarded as one of the top teams in New Jersey, the two teams had already played a similarly tight contest against each other in the regular season in October, with Hunterdon Central prevailing, 1-0, at Ridge's home field.
Carly Villa made 11 saves for Ridge. Eve Pontecorvo of Hunterdon Central made seven saves.
Ridge will play North Hunterdon Sunday at 11 a.m. in Annandale in the sectional championship game.
