SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. -- The Union Catholic girls soccer team, the No. 12 seed, played tough defense and came up with timely goals to defeat No. 13 seed Roselle Park, 2-0, in the preliminary round of the Union County Tournament on Saturday.

The first goal of the game was scored by UC star senior Coral Briber, who found the bottom left hand corner of the net off a beautiful assist from sophomore Elizabeth Walch.

Late in the second half, Kacey Brennan gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead off an assist from Alexa Almeida.

UC once again had stellar contribution from both its goaltenders. Meghan Gelcius had two saves and Nadine Rouba had three.

The Vikings will now play No. 5 seed Summit in the next round of the Union County Tournament.

UC Head Coach Jim Revel, knows his team needs to be on their A game against the Hilltoppers.

"We are going to have our hands full," said Revel. "We are going to have to go up there and play really good defense."

Summit scores goals in a hurry and Coach Revel plans to keep it low scoring.

"We are just going to try to hold them to zero," replied Revel. "If it turns into a penalty kick shootout, so be it.''
