PARKLAND, FL- A volunteer group from the Parkland community created a unique way to give back to the local community while giving thanks for our blessings locally.

The Spicy Girlz Cooking Club organized a virtual cooking class and more for residents of SOS Children's Village in Coconut Creek. Nine women from the Spicy Girlz Cooking Club came together to provide food, cooking materials, and more as a beautiful event came to life.

"We wanted to teach, teenagers especially, life skills they can use as adults," said organizer Sabrina Cozzolino. Cozzolino, who owns Deja Blue Restaurant in Parkland with her husband, Marco, helped organize the event along with Jennifer Caronna, Jenn Campanella, Tara Nichols, Brunetti Renee, Victoria Pirrung, Nicole Coyner Smeltzer, Kathy Nicols, Destiny Haggett, and Kwan Freedman.

The volunteers put together bags of ingredients and cooking utensils to make a meatball dinner and dessert, distributing and donating the supplies to SOS Children's Village. Once the ingredients were in the hands of the SOS residents, the virtual cooking class was ready to begin.

Ten houses from the SOS Children's Village were represented in the class, which was a beautiful combination of entertainment and education for everyone involved.

"It was just a Mary Poppins moment," said Cozzolino. "It was perfect in every way."

After the homemade pasta and meatball meal was complete, the group made cinnamon apple cake for dessert.

The Spicy Girlz Cooking Club hopes to continue to organize similar events in the future that will be entertaining, practical, and helpful.

"Our goal is to hold additional events," summarized Cozzolino. "This moment was magical. It takes a village to raise a child, and every bit makes a difference."
