LIVINGSTON, NJ — After Magdalena “Magda” Fitkowska, a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) at Livingston’s Sacks Orthodontics, died suddenly on July 18 at 36 years old, coworkers and friends—inspired by the many acts of kindness Magda had performed throughout her life—created a GoFundMe to help support her 11-year-old daughter, Mia.

According to friends and family, Magda was known for being free-spirited, compassionate and an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Cliodhna Davis, a friend and coworker, described Magda as “the light in everyone’s life” and shared that Magda was a “devoted mother, caring daughter, loyal friend, dedicated worker and constantly strove for a better future for Mia.”

Magda emigrated from Poland to the United States in 2002 with a passion for cooking and a desire to pursue the “American Dream.”

“You could taste her love in everything that she made,” said Davis, who also reported that Magda “would feed people, participate in 5K races and always made time for those in her life and ensured that they were taken care of.”

“She radiated love and was the type of friend that would come over in the middle of the night just to make sure you were okay,” she said.

One example of Magda’s willingness to help others occurred when her friend’s daughter was battling cancer. Magda not only supported the family emotionally, but also shaved her own head in solidarity with the daughter.

As a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) at Livingston’s Sacks Orthodontics, Magda was also known to bond with her patients and shared close relationships with her coworkers.

According to Magda’s friends, Mia was the motivation and driving force for her mother’s accomplishments and was focused on providing her daughter with an exciting, happy and healthy life.

With her mother lost to an unexpected accident this summer, Mia now lives with her grandparents, Roman and Alicja.

Davis described Mia as “an excellent student with a bright future” who also enjoys crafting, gardening, cooking, baking, playing with her dog, Leo, and learning and seeing new things. Davis also mentioned that Mia speaks both Polish and English and is very environmentally conscious.

Magda’s friends organized the GoFundMe in order to ensure that Mia will be able to go to college and live the life that her mother moved to the United States to give to her.

According to the six friends who organized the GoFundMe page, they are “raising funds to ensure the most important person in [Magda’s] life is taken care of.

“We are hoping to allow Mia the future possibilities that Magda sacrificed everything for,” they said in a joint statement. “Magda always had everyone's best interest at heart, and now we hope we can make her proud by showing her that we all have her and Mia's best interest at heart.”
