SURF CITY — The very popular Scojo's Restaurant in Surf City faced a fire overnight on Wednesday, January 20.

Despite it being a tough year for restaurant businesses due to COVID-19, Scojo's adapted and made sure they operated safely for their customers and employees. This fire is another huge hit for the restaurant.

The owners of the restaurant posted a GoFundMe page to assist the employees who will be out of work indefinitely until the restaurant is repaired.

Andy Clark has organized the fundraiser for the employees and wrote the following statement:

In the early hours of January 21, 2021, Scojos burst into flames. We are still unsure of the exact cause of the fire, but we were lucky to have Surf City, Ship Bottom, High Point, Stafford, and Manahawkin fire departments arrive on the scene so quickly. They were able to contain and completely extinguish the blaze.

We will begin repairs to the building in all areas that were affected, both from fire and water damage. Due to these potentially lengthy repairs, our beloved employees will be the ones most impacted by this.  We are starting this fund to directly go to them to make up for the money they will be losing while we make renovations. We want to be very clear that anything donated will go directly to them until we get back on our feet. Many of our supporters were asking how they could help and we see this as the best solution.

We love this community and we love what we do. The entire Scojos family wants to get back to work to greet all of our loyal patrons again. If you can give anything at all, please consider it.
