HAWTHORNE, NJ - Mayor Richard Goldberg released a letter to the borough updating the residents of the situations ongoing.  He indicated that his next letter would come on Monday, instead of his usual twice-a-week schedule.  His letter reads below:

Dear Resident,

Late this afternoon I had to leave my house and come to the Municipal Building because of the loss of power in my neighborhood. The large number of branches that came down and landed in my driveway and at my front door made it look like a tree farm exploded on my property! I have been told that several areas in town are without power; however, we weathered the storm relatively intact, and are waiting for power to be restored.

Our newsletter delivers the local news that you can trust.

The numbers as of this morning are 444 total positives, with 20 fatalities, and only 3 active cases. While our numbers in Hawthorne appear to be under control, we are experiencing an uptick in New Jersey. We must remain vigilant.

As you know, the Governor, as of yesterday, reversed part of his decision on indoor activities lowering the number of people allowed indoors. This will inevitably delay decisions about reopening indoor dining.

Don’t forget to fill out your Census form. This information drives the formula for all sorts of benefits from the Federal Government, including funding and Federal representation in Congress. If you don’t fill out the form, you will soon get a knock on your door from a Census worker.

Keep using masks, wash your hands and practice social distancing. It has crushed the curve; please don’t become complacent.

Again, please remember that the Borough has a non-perishable food pantry. If you need food, cannot afford or cannot get to a supermarket, please call the Board of Health at 973-427-4011. Thank you to everyone who donated food to the Borough food pantry as well as supplies and food for our first responders.

If you have any questions, please call us at the Municipal Building at 973-427- 5555 or my office directly at 973-427-1168. My next letter is scheduled for Monday, August 10th. Stay safe!

Sincerely,
Mayor Goldberg
