RAHWAY, NJ - For the first time in the 61-year history of the Union County Baseball Tournament, the Gov. Livingston Highlanders were named the tourney's No. 1 seed.
Based on a numerical ranking system, the seeding committee for the 17-team field voted the Highlanders the top seed in the tournament.
Defending champion Cranford will be the second seed, with Westfield and Scotch Plains-Fanwood taking the third and fourth spots.
Summit grabs the ninth spot, New Providence the 10th seed, Roselle Park is the 11th seed and Plainfield the 15th.
The complete first-round matchups are as follows:
No. 17 Linden at No. 16 Roselle Park - Winner faces No. 1 Gov. Livingston
No. 9 Summit at No. 8 Elizabeth
No. 13 Oratory at No. 4 Scotch Plains
No. 12 Johnson at No. 5 Dayton
No. 14 Plainfield at No. 3 Westfield
No. 11 Roselle Park at No. 6 Union
No. 10 New Providence at No. 7 Union Catholic
No. 15 Rahway at No. 2 Cranford
The preliminary round of Linden at Roselle Catholic takes place on Wednesday, with all first-round matchups scheduled for Saturday. The quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday, April 30, with the semifinals scheduled for Saturday, May 3. The tournament final will take play on May 10 at a to be determined site.
