BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Gov. Livingston girls lacrosse team has rebounded from their season opening loss to Vernon (10-8) with explosive back to back wins this past week against Elizabeth (11-1), Passaic Valley (16-2), and on Saturday they defeated Kittattinny (12-8). The Lady Highlander's are currently undefeated in their conference.
So far, so good...
The Lady Highlanders, under the new leadership of head coach Nicole Testa, is working on installing different defensive sets to respond to varying game scenerios.
"A lot of times we need the ball back quickly in close games, specifically, Vernon last week -- we have added these defenses in order to adapt to our leads or deficits," said junior center Julia Martin.
With the strong midfield, they have been cutting through to create open pass opportunities, moving the ball up the field. "We have very strong midfield transition this year, which is awesome," said Martin.
"Our midfield transition and solid defense have been key parts of our success," said Coach Testa.
With the strong attackers and a set of plays which they work on diligently at every practice, the team is optimistic in continuing their wins and positive mentality to bring a high level of play to each game.
Cheer on the Lady Highlanders as they play Lenape Valley on Tuesday, April 8 at Snyder Avenue Field in Berkeley Heights at 4 p.m.
