NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The Gov. Livingston girls soccer team continued its success over local rivals on Tuesday, beating New Providence, 1-0, at NP's Lieder Field.
Highlander striker Lauren DiStaso scored the game's only goal to lead Gov. Livingston to its ninth victory of the season.
The victory gives GL the regular-season sweep over the Pioneers. The Highlanders won the first meeting earlier in the season, 3-1.
“That was probably the best eighty minutes we have played all year,” New Providence head coach Scott Murphy said. “We are moving in the right direction as a team and once we start finishing our chances, we will be tough to beat.”
The Pioneers had their chances against Highlander goalkeeper Olivia Emanuel, however she stopped all 15 shots on goal to record GL's third shutout of the season.
“We are trying to start playing as a team and with that comes learning from our mistakes,” New Providence captain Ashley Evangelos said. “Today we simply did not finish the chances we had.”
New Providence's Jen Maluso and Katie Vigilante combined to stop 15 of the 16 Highlander shots.
The Pioneers return to action on Thursday when they visit Oak Knoll, while Gov. Livingston hosts Parsippany. Both contests begin at 4 p.m.
