TRENTON, NJ - Governor Phil Murphy will deliver his 2019 State of the State address at the New Jersey Statehouse on Tuesday. The speech is expected to begin at 2:00 p.m.
The annual address delivered by New Jersey's top elected official is often used as an opportunity to highlight accomplishments from the previous 12 months and lay out a vision for the coming 12 months. According to reports Murphy's speech is expected to touch on policy issues such as increasing the minimum wage, the legalization of marijuana, and continuing to improve the State's public transity system.
“We have made great progress over the last year building a stronger and fairer New Jersey, with vital investments in education, infrastructure, and our economy to grow and protect our middle class,” Murphy said in a press release. “But our work is far from done. This year’s State of the State will focus on continuing to make New Jersey a better, more affordable place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Much of Murphy's time in office has been marked by political infighting among Democratic leaders impeding efforts to pass legislation on many of the issues he ran on in 2017.
