WESTFIELD, NJ — Grädde, an upscale Swedish restaurant in the space formerly occupied by Gabi’s Sushi & Noodles downtown, opened Sunday, Dec. 1, at noon.
It’s been 19 years since Margaret Lager of Sweden visited Westfield and fell in love with the community. Back then, she vowed that one day she would return to open a restaurant and share her famous dishes with Westfield clientele. A world traveler and self-trained chef, at one time Chef Lager was the owner of two fine restaurants in her native country.
“My wife does everything well,” said Ronny Lager. “She loves to cook, bake, decorate and shop. We have lived all over the world, and she is a world-class chef. “
Two months ago, the couple decided that this was the time to follow their dream, move to America and open a restaurant in Westfield.
“We arrived in October, and believe it or not, it took less than a month to find our new ‘home.' From the moment I visited my tiny new establishment, located at 13 Elm Street in Westfield, I knew it was going to be a great experience. It’s a sweet little shop, and I just love it,” said Margaret Lager.
“We’ll be serving traditional Swedish food. All of our meals are prepared fresh each day. Please plan to visit us. We want to celebrate our new restaurant with all of our new friends," she said. “We focus on quality, not quantity, and we pay close attention to each and every detail of every meal."

Hours: Closed Monday. Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday noon to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday noon to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
