SUMMIT, NJ - Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball players Madeleine Gramigna and Robbie Walsh have been named Summit High School Athletes of the Week, presented by The Alternative Press of Summit, for the week ending January 19.
Each week throughout the school year, one girl and boy athlete will be honored for distinguishing herself / himself in the arena of competition, in the classroom, and for demonstrating exemplary, Hilltopper-caliber sportsmanship and leadership qualities.
In three games, Gramigna -- a senior Tr-Captain -- scored 37 points and grabbed 30 rebounds. She is averaging 12.3 points per game and 10 rebounds per game for a Hilltopper squad that is 8-3 on the season. Against Scotch Plains-Fanwood, Gramigna recorded a double-double -- double digits in points scored and rebounds in a single game -- with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
"Madeline is one of the hardest working student athletes I have coached. She is the first one in the gym, and the last one to leave everyday. She is a true leader," said Girls Varsity Head Coach Brian Erickson.
Walsh is averaging 12.5 points and 10 rebounds per game for Summit, which is off to an impressive 7-1 start. He is a senior Captain and three-year Varsity starter.
"Robbie has done an outstanding job of leading our team this year. He brings a great work ethic to practice, which teammates and coaches admire. He has served as an outstanding role model for others," noted Boys Varsity Head Coach Jim Davidson.
