SUMMIT, NJ - Summit High School Class of 2016 and Hilltoppers Girls Basketball all-time leading career points leader Cassidy O'Malley has become the 14th player in Ithaca College history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
O'Malley achieved the milestone as a junior, with her 1,000th point coming when she hit a jumper in the paint with 2:39 left in the third quarter of the Bombers February 9 win at St. Lawrence.
She has also just been named the Liberty League Performer of the Week for February 4-10. In back-to-back games, O'Malley led all scorers with 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and a block in a 69-44 win over Clarkson. She then dropped an 18-point (8-for-13), seven rebound performance on St. Lawrence in the Bombers' 63-57 victory.
In 2018-19 campaign, O'Malley is leading the team in scoring with 15.4 points per game while shooting a healthy 46 percent from the field and making 79 percent of her free throws. The Bombers are currently 18-5 on the season and 13-3 in the Liberty League.
Last season, O'Malley was named the 2017-18 Liberty League Co-Player of the Year in a season in which the then-sophomore was Ithaca's leading scorer, averaging 17.7 points per game. That same season she also led the Bombers in blocked shots with 60, and ranked among Liberty League leaders in scoring (third overall), field goal percentage (.484, first overall), free throw percentage (.787, fourth overall) and blocks (2.2 per game, second overall).
At Summit High School, O'Malley finished with 1,439 points, breaking the previous record held by Lindsay Burns on February 24, 2016.
She was the first junior ever to attend the Kent Place Boulevard campus to hit the 1,000-point mark.
