Great Swamp Wilderness Act Day Celebration Coming


CHATHAM, NJ - The 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson will be recognized as the "Great Swamp Wilderness Act Day Celebration," in a proclamation made Thursday by the Chatham Township Committee.

On Sept. 3, 1964, President Johnson signed the Wilderness Act into law and in 1968, Chatham's Great Swamp was designated as a wilderness area by the Department of the Interior.
