WESTFIELD, NJ -- Update: On final count, exactly 900 runners and walkers participated in Greta's Run.

Original story: About 800 runners and walkers and 200 volunteers came to the Westfield Area YMCA on Sept. 15 to take part in Greta’s Run, a 5K run/walk and fundraiser for special needs programs at the Y in memory of Westfield High School Student Greta Schoenemann.

“I’m just real grateful for the opportunity to do this and give this to the Schoenemann family and the town,” said organizer Ben Nanna. “This was the best thing we could have done for Greta. Greg Hatzisavvas, senior director of member and wellness engagement at the Y, has been excellent. I’m really grateful to the Y for allowing me to do this.”

Before the race began, Broadway Performer Russell Fischer, who can be seen currently in “Jersey Boys,” sang The Star-Spangled Banner.
