HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A Hackensack man has been arrested and charged with hindering apprehension, and his girlfriend, of Bergenfield, with hindering apprehension and child abuse following their alleged physical assault of a juvenile in Hackensack.

According to a news release from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, city police on November 10 received word that Crystalann Clarke, a 35-year-old unemployed woman of Bergenfield, physically assaulted a juvenile, resulting in “multiple stitches to the face.” After the Hackensack Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, it was determined that Clarke and her boyfriend Patel Whyte, of Hackensack, commanded the juvenile to lie about their injuries to shield Clarke from being investigated for child abuse.

The following day, Clarke was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension and one count of child abuse. Clarke made an appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court and was released.
