A Hatfield Township man is dead and his passenger in critical condition after an early Monday morning crash on the 1600 block of Broad Street in Hatfield Township that sheared the car in two.
Timothy Tan Nguyen, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash shortly before 1 a.m., per CBS3. Initial reports stated Nguyen had crashed into a utility pole in front of Kumon Learning Center in the old Salvation Army building.
Nguyen’s passenger, Andy Kham, 22, was airlifted to Thomas Jefferson Hospital for treatment of injuries, per CBS3.
The Morning Call reported Lansdale Borough Police saw Nguyen’s vehicle speeding in excess of 80 mph on North Broad Street prior to the crash. The Montgomery County District Attorney is assisting in the investigation, per reports.
The Reporter Online covered a vigil organized by E.N.V.I.O.U.S. Car Club Monday night, which was attended by Nguyen’s friends and fellow car enthusiasts. A friend at the vigil said Nguyen was “heavy-footed” on the gas pedal, as they left the 7-Eleven on West Main Street toward Broad Street shortly after 12:30 a.m.
Broad Street was closed until about 7 a.m. Monday, per NBC10.
