HELMETTA, NJ - Borough voters elected two write-in candidates to the council on November 6. Incumbent Pete Karczewsi and newcomer Michael Duffy were both elected after a write-in campaign. Karczewski and Duffy decided to run for the open borough council seats after the deadline, which is why their names were not on the ballot.

Helmetta Mayor Chris Slavicek thanked borough residents for electing Karczewski and Duffy to the council in a Facebook post.

The other local item on the ballot for Helmetta voters was the two open seats on the Spotswood Board of Education. Mariellen Chasan was re-elected and newcomer Suzanne Krainski won the other open seat, finishing second in the voting behind Chasan. Long time BOE member and current president, Dulce Branco-Rivera lost her re-election bid, finishing third in the voting.
