Ready for a little Bourbon Street on the Boardwalk? Well then grab a Hurricane, a bowl of gumbo, and break out the beads at Showboat Atlantic City where Mardi Gras isn’t just a day, it’s a way of life. Showboat Atlantic City presents Mardi Gras 2012, a five day celebration of themed events, entertainment, contests, promotions and plentiful food and beverage offerings.
It’s pretty much a given fact that the music of New Orleans is second to none, that is, until now. Throughout Mardi Gras 2012, Showboat Atlantic City is offering guests a chance to enjoy free, live entertainment in the lobby with the musical stylings of The Crawdaddy Band, the East Coast’s premiere Louisiana Cajun, Zydeco, Blues act. Additionally, the lobby at Showboat will feature the Cajun Brothers, a group known for their over-the-top brand of bayou-blues-rock.
New Orleans has been called “The Fat City,” and for good reason—the native cuisine is some of the most recognizable and indulgent in the world. In honor of Mardi Gras, Showboat’s restaurants are serving up N’awlins favorites. The French Quarter Buffet is offering Whole Roast Pig, Seafood Jambalaya, and King Cake. Mansion Café will serve Crab Cake Benedict with Cajun Hollandaise and Shrimp Gumbo. Scarduzio’s Steak | Sushi | Lounge is serving Blackened Prime Rib and Shrimp Creole. Casa di Napoli offers Cajun cuisine with the Blackened Bronzino and Crawfish Etouffe. Foundation Room is treating customers with Pecan Crusted Gulf Trout and Sticky Toffee Pudding. Finally the House of Blues Restaurant delivers a mouth-watering delight with Oyster Po’ Boys and Shrimp, Crawfish Etoufee, and some authentic Who Dat beverages like $5 Abita Beers and $5 Bayou Breeze Cocktails.
Guests looking to make some Doubloons, can cash in with Showboat’s Mardi Gras $50,000 sweepstakes, which is open to the public. On February 18th at 2pm, on the main concourse at Showboat, Total Rewards Members can begin swiping their Total Rewards cards at the promotional kiosks to enter. Drawings are held at 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm, with 10 winners chosen every hour. Additionally, Showboat will offer a Fat Tuesday $15,000 sweepstakes on February 21st. This promotion invites guests to swipe Total Rewards cards at any promotional kiosk from 2pm to 6pm, with drawings at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm. At the 7pm drawing, 11 randomly selected winners will receive a mini King Cake, and one of the traditional Mardi Gras desserts will contain a mini baby figurine buried deep inside; the Total Rewards member who finds the figurine will win the grand prize.
“There’s an old NOLA saying, ‘Laissez le Bon Temp Rouler,’ translated it means ‘Let the Good Times Role,’ and from Friday the 17th to Fat Tuesday that’s exactly what guests at Showboat can expect,” said Jennifer Weissman, Regional Vice President of Marketing for Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City. “With eclectic food offerings, inspired entertainment, and amazing sweepstakes, Showboat’s Mardi Gras celebration doesn’t simply borrow the feel of the Crescent City, but rather, enhances it.”
And for the main event, the House of Blues Casino Party Pit hosts Showboat’s 4th Annual Fat Tuesday King Cake Eating World Championship. On February 21st at 3pm, this open to the public event features twelve of the world’s best competitive eaters, as they gather to consume as many dense and sticky king cakes as humanly possible. The winner will receive fame, glory and a part of the $4,000 cash prize for this Major League Eating sanctioned event. Such heavyweight competitors include: Sean “Flash” Gordon of Downingtown, PA; Micah “Candyman” Collins of Drexel Hill, PA; Bob “Notorious B.O.B.” Shoudt of Royersford, PA; the 105 pound Sonya “the Black Widow” Thomas of Alexandria, VA; and the current king cake champion Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti of Chicago, IL.
“Showboat Atlantic City is proud to welcome back Major League Eating for the 4th Annual Fat Tuesday King Cake Eating Championship,” continued Weissman. “This event is the pinnacle to Showboat’s five-day festival devoted to Mardi Gras and the spirit of New Orleans. For anyone who has not seen this, event in person I urge you to come down and experience it first-hand.” For additional information, please visit http://www.showboatac.com/

The Atlantic City Country Club atmosphere and music by the Eddie Morgan Trio made it all the more enjoyable. We’re already looking forward to and planning next year’s event.”
