MAPLEWOOD, NJ – In March, Sandy Edelman and Danielle Phillips learned that their 3 year old daughter, Angelina, has a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma which has reached stage four, which means that the cancer is in multiple areas and had metastasized to her bones.
Doctors are hopeful that with treatment, Angelina can beat this cancer, and the family is asking our community for help. With her chances estimated at 50/50, and the five year survival rate for children with neuroblastoma of 35%, the family must do everything possible to make it happen, including making changes to their home in order to aid Angelina’s compromised immune system.
Angelina has begun her chemotherapy which will continue for at least a year and include a stem cell transplant.
The HK Project has spearheaded a fundraising effort for the family which is facing extraordinary expenses. To donate, you may visit their website: www.hkproject.org and under donations, hit the HK CARES button. You may also send a check (with “Angelina” written in the memo line) to:
515 Valley Street
Maplewood, NJ 07040
Charlie Brown's Fresh Grill in Millburn will be donating 20% of your food purchase on June 20 to help offset the costs of Angelina’s treatment, if you mention "Angelina's Army" to your server.
The family is also looking for childcare for their 5-year-old son Aidan. If you know of a mature college or high school student willing to donate their time to help with the family’s child care needs, please contact Amy Jo Curran at firstname.lastname@example.org or 973-762-4062
