HOBOKEN, NJ - The Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) has issued a statement after it was announced that an employee had been arrested for sexually assault.

Ivan Sanchez, 30, of Hoboken, was arrested on August 11 after he allegedly abused a 5-year-old boy in multiple locations across his body, causing severe bruising and injuries of a sexual nature.

Sanchez, who worked as a janitor at HHA, was arrested Tuesday, August 11 at 2:40 p.m. at the agency’s Harrison Street office and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4A(2), a crime of the second degree, and Sexual Assault by Contact in violation of 2C:14-2B, a crime of the second degree.

HHA Director Mark Recko issued a statement on Thursday regarding the arrest of Sanchez, who he refers to as a “now-former employee”.

"On August 11, 2020, the Housing Authority of the City of Hoboken was contacted by a representative from the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office requesting assistance in a criminal matter involving a now-former employee of the Authority."



Recko says in his statement, "At that time, the Authority cooperated fully with the Prosecutor's Office and with the Hoboken Police Department and is committed ot continuing to assist in any way necessary.

Regarding Sanchez's current status, Recko said, "Upon learning details of the matter through an August 12, 2020 media report, the Authority took immediate steps to address the matter from a personnel standpoint. In addition, the Authority has initiated a review of the matter to determine its ability to permanently ban the now-former employee from entering Authority property for any purpose."

The Hoboken Housing Authority manages 1,353 units of public housing in 28 properties at six locations across the city of Hoboken.
