Horse Recovers After EHV-1 Diagnosis, Quarantines Lifted in Pennsylvania

A quarantine that was imposed in Butler County, Pa. after one horse tested positive for  EHV-1 was lifted on Dec. 26, according to the Equine Disease Communication Center.

A small dressage barn was placed under quarantine on Nov. 15 after one horse showed neurological symptoms. EHV-1 (wild-type) was confirmed by RRT-PCR testing of nasal swab and whole blood samples. The horse has since recovered.

A second, private barn was also under quarantine until Dec. 6 because it had received a horse from the same barn where the sick horse was stabled.
