WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Essex ice hockey team won its opening game, defeating Livingston, 3-0, Friday at Codey Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Clayton Prial got the Knights on the board with a goal assisted by Joe Namyatov in the second period.

West Essex put the game away with a pair of third-period goals. Tommy O'Hern scored to extend the lead to 2-0 with helpers from Hunter White and Namyatov. Rocco Garcia finished matters with a power play goal assisted by Alex Laglia.

Zach Jewett was brilliant between the pipes, stopping all 30 shots he faced from Livingston to preserve the shutout.
