Imagine held its fifth volunteer facilitator training on September 20-23.  This 32-hour training prepares indviduals from the community to faciltiate Imagine peer support groups for children and teens age 3-18 who are coping with loss due to death, or who are coping with a terminal or chronic illness themselves or within their family.   Imagine volunteers also facilitate parent and adult support groups.

"We needed more trained volunteers so we could start our third Night of Support," said Mandi Zucker, Imagine Program Director.  We have only been open for a short time, but our programs are growing so quickly because of the great need in this community -- over 700 children annually will lose a parent to death in Union County.   Over 140 children and adutls from 35 NJ towns are currently participating and a waiting list has formed.  Our third Night of Support for bereavement starts on Tuesday October 8th."

Imagine also provides support for families coping with a family member, child or adult, with a terminal or chronic illness.  This new program, Tender Living Care (TLC), will be starting this fall.  Like Imagine bereavement programs, TLC is a year-round, free peer support group that families may join regardless of illness.  "We are grateful to the Overlook Medical Center and the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center and staff, and the JFK Medical Center and their Haven Hospice program for their collaboration with Imagine in helping us create this program," said Mary Robinson, Executive Director.  Grief starts at the moment of a diagnosis.  Now families can get support as soon as they need it."
