MADISON, NJ - A driver from out of state who was apparently driving under the influence crashed into the bridge abutment on Madison Avenue and Kings Road on Tuesday.
According to Madison police, Joshua Strong, 29, of Glen Burnie, Md. was charged with DWI 39:4-50, DWI within 1,000 feet of a school zone, Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container in M.V. 39:4-51.B and Reckless Driving 30:4-96 after a single-car motor vehicle crash shortly before midnight on Tuesday.
Upon officers arriving on scene, they observed Strong was staggering outside his vehicle with the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot eyes and injuries related to the accident. The Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps was dispatch to the scene and Strong was transported to Morristown Medical Center for further treatment.
New Jersey Transit was contacted and confirmed that no structural damage was sustained to the bridge.
