In Westfield, Teen Assaulted for iPhone, Man Caught with CDS

After being stopped for motor vehicle violations, Tony Velasquez of Elizabeth was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Elizabeth. Velasquez was released after processing.

Arthur Towns, 31, of Union was arrested on an active ATS Warrant out of Westfield Municipal Court ($197.00) pursuant to a walk in report. Towns was processed and released after posting bail.

January 24, 2014 7:11 p.m.

Jarrett Jackson, 18, of Plainfield was arrested on an outstanding criminal warrant out of Westfield Municipal Court ($1,000.00) pursuant to a pick-up at Somerset County Jail. Jackson was transported to Headquarters, processed and released on posted bail.

January 24, 2014 9:08 p.m.

A 14 year old Westfield resident reported being the victim of a strong armed robbery, theft and an assault. The victim was walking in the area of Windsor Avenue and Ripley Place with two other juveniles from town when they were confronted by six assailants. The suspects began to physically assault the 14 year old male at which point they stole his iPhone and one of his sneakers. The suspects fled the scene after they entered a black van. A check of the area by responding patrol units yielded negative results for the suspects. Approximately 2 hours later, the suspect vehicle was observed in the area of New Street, near Central Avenue. A traffic stop was executed in the area of W. North Avenue and Central Avenue. A further investigation revealed the occupants of the vehicle were the suspects from the strong armed robbery reported earlier. Recovered during the investigation was the victim’s stolen iPhone located inside the van. The driver of the vehicle, Mark Kotulski, 20, of Clark was arrested along with a 16 year old from Clark. A 16 year old from Garwood, and two 15 year olds, one 16 year old and one 17 year old from Plainfield. All subjects were transported to Westfield Police Department, processed and charged with 2nd degree robbery, 3rd degree theft and simple assault - a disorderly person’s offense. The juveniles were released to adults pending appearances in court. Mark Kotulski was released after posting $50,000.00 bail (no 10% alternative) with a mandatory court date at Union County Superior Court.

January 25, 2014 12:44 p.m.

A motor vehicle was stopped in the 600 block of South Avenue West on a red light violation. Upon investigation, 2 occupants were placed under arrest. Jordon Payne, 41, of Shirley, NY was brought to Westfield Police Department Headquarters to answer for an active warrant #2008-250 in the amount of $600.00 (no 10%) out of Denville Township. Payne satisfied fine and was released. His brother, Demion Payne, 37, of Brentwood NY was charged with possession of CDS. He was released on his own recognizance after processing.

January 25, 2014 4:59 p.m.

Joseph T. Barmakian, 56, of Westfield responded to Westfield Police Department to satisfy two traffic warrants issued by the Westfield Municipal Court. Barmakian was processed and released after posting $140.00 cash bail.

January 28, 2014 9:01 a.m.

Bobby Reaves, 44, of Philadelphia, PA was arrested at Hudson County Jail on an $860.00 Westfield traffic warrant. Reaves was unable to post bail and was held pending court date on January 29th at 9:00 a.m.
