SOMERVILLE, NJ – Today, the Somerset County Republican Organization launched the “Dishonest Darrin Clock”, a running clock showing how many days, hours, and minutes Darrin Russo -the Democrat candidate for Sheriff - has refused to pay-back taxpayers for using union time to line his own pockets.

According to records obtained through an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request, Russo accrued 1,012,5 hours of union-time from 2014 prior to his retirement in June of 2016 – or the equivalent of 83 paid days off.

“The SCRO first called on Darrin to do the right thing in August, and to date, he’s done nothing,” said Somerset County Republican Chairman Al Gaburo. “His lack of action, and the fact that he believes he did nothing wrong to taxpayers, is telling. If Somerset County can’t trust Russo to do the right thing now, how could they ever trust him to run the largest law enforcement department in the County?”

The “Dishonest Darrin Clock” is available at and will help inform taxpayers and voters whose side Russo is really on.

“Unfortunately, Russo’s behavior shows he was only interested in using union-time to line his own pockets, and his belief that he should be paid for participating in charity and community events is even more infuriating. Last time I checked, when you perform charity, it’s because you are interested in doing good – not because you’re being paid for it,” Gaburo said
