SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The storm did not stay long, but it did damage during its rumble through New Jersey. Downed trees in both Scotch Plains and Fanwood pulled down wires and left thousands of homes in the area without power.

As of 5:45 p.m., 1,850 out of Fanwood's 3,005 homes were without power, according to the Fanwood Borough Facebook page. Widespread outtages impacted Scotch Plains, as well. PSE&G reports that as of 11:00 p.m. 32,165 (15.6%) of its 206,304 customers in the Union County were still without electricity. The utility says that its crews are working hard to get power restored within the next 24 for homes that are without it.

Earlier in the day, downed wires caught fire near the historic Frazee House on Raritan Road in Scotch Plains. Fortunately, the landmark was not damaged.
