Short Hills native pianist and singer Sue Maskaleris and bassist Gregory Jones from Maplewood present "It Might as Well Be Swing, An Afternoon of Jazz, Brazilian and Original Music" at the Millburn Public Library, 200 Glen Avenue, Millburn, NJ on Saturday, June 9th at 2:30 pm.
Ms. Maskaleris returns to the library with more exciting new compositions. She was first runner- up in the Thelonious Monk Composition Competition, won first prize in the Billboard Song Contest, world category; was a winner in JAZZIZ magazine's "Keyboards on Fire!" Talent Search judged by Dave Brubeck and Bob James, and won many other awards.
She returns to Bryant Park in New York City Memorial Day week from 12:30 to 2:30 in their Piano in the Park series, playing ragtime, Brazilian chorinhos, Cuban contradanzas and her own music, which she has performed there for over a decade.
Mr. Jones was part of Ms. Maskaleris' Trio do Rio in the 80's in New York City and recorded her first CD, "Unbreakable Heart." He has performed with Carly Simon, Ben E. King, Les McCann, Astrud Gilberto, Nat Adderley Jr., Jon Lucien, tap dancer Savion Glover and many others. Mr. Jones has toured Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia numerous times, and is also an educator.
