Jaguars Show Off At High School Track and Field National Championships

EAST ORANGE, NJ – Cory Poole, Haji Davis, Quamir Payton, Jermain Flanagan, Tyraiq Beals, Damion Thomas, and Mohammed Sulley recently represented the City of East Orange in the New Balance High School Track and Field National Championships which were held at Aggie Field on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro North Carolina. 

The group traveled to the competition with one thing on their mind; to perform in a manner that would make a statement about track and field in East Orange.  They did not disappoint. Instead, they showed out. On the first day of the competition Poole, Davis, Payton and Flanagan ran the 4x200 meter relay.  The East Orange Campus High School track standouts finish 11th in the United States in the Emerging Elite Section with a time of 1:31.13.

On the second day, Tyraiq Beals and Damion Thomas joined Poole and Davis as they shuttled their way to a 5th place finish in the country in the Championship Section of the meet with the time of 59.96 in the shuttle hurdle relay.

On the final day of the meet, Flanagan, Davis, Mohammed Sulley and Poole teamed up to run the 4X400 meter relay with a time of 3:25.29.

“Nationals were a very special moment for me.  It has been 11 years since East Orange Boys Track and Field has competed in the New Balance High School National Track and Field Championships” said Lance Wigfall. “I was also a student- athlete during that time at East Orange Campus High School.  To travel with a group of young men to this meet and witness them achieve All-American status is a phenomenal feeling”
