JERSEY CITY, NJ - An alleged high-ranking member of a violent street gang operating in Jersey City made his initial court appearance Monday on charges related to his possession of a weapon as a convicted felon and Phencyclidine (PCP) which he is said to have intended to distribute, with intent to distribute, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpentino announced.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court on Aug. 3, Jalil Burns, a/k/a “Big Ben”, was found in possession of a .40 caliber handgun, which was loaded with six rounds of ammunition, and a jar of Phencyclidine. Burns was also convicted in federal court of unlawfully possessing a firearm as a convicted felon in 2009.

Burns was ordered to remain in jail and faces life in prison if convicted of the most serious crime of Possessing a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.
