I immediately liked the idea of TheAlternativePress.com (TAP) because I believe that small local businesses are still the backbone of this country. The ability to own and operate your own business is one of the freedoms that Americans are afforded and I personally believe in taking advantage of that freedom.
Each time I cover a local story, I feel privileged to have the opportunity to provide useful information to my fellow community members. As award-winning journalist Scott Pelley said, "Democracies succeed or fail based on their journalism. America is strong because its journalism is strong. That is how democracies work. They're only as good as the quality of the information that the public possesses, and that is where we come in."
In addition, not only is it empowering to have your own business where you can make your own schedule and choices that fit your life, but TheAlternativePress.com has a product that, I believe, adds real value to society.
So for me, the significance of working with TAP is twofold. On one hand, I get to live the American dream of being a business owner, and on the other, I am able to contribute my share to the community. I don't think I could ask for a better professional scenario, and I am thankful for it.
