Joint Operation Between Paterson Police and U.S. Marshals Results in 14 Arrests

PATERSON, NJ - The Paterson Police Warrant Squad was joined Thursday morning by the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force in a Warrant Apprehension Operation that resulted in 14 arrests.

According to Paterson Police Capt. Heriberto Rodriguez, targets were identified and investigated after investigations into a number of active warrants. Fourteen persons were now in custody and 39 active arrest warrants had been served and cleared. A separate fugitive case investigation revealed a suspect was discovered to be recently deceased. Additional investigations are continuing and information has been gained in unrelated matters.

"The open warrants charges ranged from Aggravated Assault, Domestic Violence, Armed Robbery, Weapons Offense, Child Support and Superior Court Warrants for failure To Appear from Passaic and Bergen Counties along with Municipal Bench Warrants from Paterson and other towns in North Jersey," Rodriguez said. "The arrests occurred in the city of Paterson and one in Passaic City. Those arrested were transported to Paterson Police, where they were booked and lodged in the Paterson Police cell block, as they await bail postings or commitments to be transferred to the county jail."

The U.S. Marshals Task Force is comprised of members from the United States Marshals Service, Paterson Police, New Jersey State Parole, Jersey City Police, Bergen and Hudson County Sheriffs and the Hudson County Prosecutors Office.  

"This Warrant Apprehension Operation will not be a one-time joint Federal-Local law enforcement event," Rodriguez said."Future operations will take place within the city of Paterson and in any locations where a suspect may have a warrant issued from the Paterson Police, as the U.S. Marshals have the ability to serve such warrants over jurisdictional boundaries."
