MILLBURN, NJ - The Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills (JLOSH) has organized a “Kids for Kids” day, which will bring together local groups for a fun morning of volunteering at the George Bauer Community Center in Taylor Park on Saturday, November 16. This children’s volunteering event to help other youngsters in need was such a success last year that JLOSH has decided to do it again this year, supported in part by the Investors Foundation.
“This wonderful event is possible because of the collective efforts and support of our community partners,” said JLOSH President Sara D’Andrea. “It is a great example of how we can do so much more together. By planning this event and including the younger generation, we hope to further spread the good work of volunteerism.”
Local community groups that are contributing include Christ Church Cub Scout Pack #1, Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Deerfield Elementary School in Short Hills, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Family Intervention Services, Inc., Girl Scout Troops #315, #20124, and #20898, Interfaith Hospitality Network of Essex County, Inc., Millburn High School Key Club, Mothers and More Maplewood-South Orange Chapter, Opportunity Project, Inc. of Millburn in collaboration with AAA New Jersey Automobile Club and The Salvation Army Orange Corps.
“We are inviting all children’s civic groups in the area to participate in this collaborative event. We want to show that everyone, regardless of his or her age, can make a difference to our community,” D’Andrea said.
There will be activities suitable for children aged six to eleven years that will be a great service to those in need. Some of the planned activities include: sorting donated books for re-distribution to local children in need; assembling cold winter kits and dental health kits; filling bags with healthy snacks for programs serving homeless and at-risk youth; creating handmade holiday greetings; and much more.
The 2012-13 winners of JLOSH’s ‘The Littlest Volunteer Contest’ will be on hand and ‘Kids For Kids’ day will mark the kick-off of the 2013-14 contest that awards $100 for the most creative idea.
‘Kids For Kids’ will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 16, at the George Bauer Community Center in Taylor Park, 100 Main Street, Millburn.
