On the quiet second floor of the Jumble Store, a thrift shop owned by the Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfiedl, over 300 gently used and new dresses by designers such as BCBG, Betsy Johnson, Jim Hjelm, and Carmen Marc Volvo are available for $25. An assortment of accessories are available for $5 - $10 each.
The Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield, a volunteer service organization for women, is conducting its first annual Glass Slipper Boutique just in time for high school proms, spring dances, and other semiformal or formal events for which that special dress is needed.
Karen Chong, president of the Junior League, and Geetha Subramanian, chair of the Glass Slipper Boutique, said, “We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of schools, companies, and individuals who generously supported us with donations of beautiful dresses that are new and in like new condition. As we see it, The Glass Slipper Boutique provides a two-way benefit for the League and for the community. The proceeds of this event will support our community projects, while allowing many individuals to purchase beautiful dresses at an excellent price.”
Nova Spinner, chair of The Jumble Store Steering Committee, added, “The Glass Slipper Boutique features something for everyone. We have a wide assortment of styles in juniors, misses, and women’s sizes, so that hopefully, with prom season upon us, every young lady who wants to go to the prom can find the perfect dress at an affordable price, which is particularly important in this economy.”
