Washington Elementary School fifth grade class announces Katherine Seery as their annual scholarship recipient.
Each year the fifth grade class operates a school store selling school supplies and novelty items. In the past, 100 percent of the profits have been donated to a charity of the class’s choice.
Four years ago, the fifth grade class established a scholarship to be awarded to a graduating high school senior who completed their elementary academic education at Washington School.
Each applicant answers the question, “What was the most important lesson you learned in elementary school and how has that made you the person you are today?” Each essay is blindly read to the fifth grade class and each student casts their anonymous vote.
So many life lessons have been shared by many graduating seniors and past scholarship recipients Daniel Eliades, Madeline Chandler and Courtney Weiss.
Katherine was presented with a $500 check at the Fifth Grade Awards Ceremony at Washington School on June 20th and read her winning essay “To Lead or not to Lead” to the entire student body, faculty and fifth grade parents. Katherine will attend Ohio State in the fall of 2014.
