Kent Place Elects Short Hills Resident James H. McGraw IV as President, Board of Trustees

SUMMIT, NJ - Kent Place School, an independent, nonsectarian, college-preparatory day school for young women, has announced the election of James H. McGraw IV to the position of President of the Board of Trustees, effective July 1. McGraw will be responsible for working with the Board of Trustees to ensure Kent Place School has the resources it needs to fulfill its mission. 

McGraw has served in a range of executive management roles with McGraw Hill Financial, formerly named The McGraw-Hill Companies. He currently is president of the McGraw Hill Financial Global Institute. Previously, he served as vice-president, Group Publisher for McGraw Hill Construction where he had responsibility for the unit’s award-winning publications including, Engineering News-Record and Architectural Record.

Prior to that, McGraw served as vice president, strategic programs for BusinessWeek magazine where he led the development of numerous special interest publications on topics such as education, the arts, the environment and the business of the PGA Tour.  He also led the expansion ofBusinessWeek’s executive conference programs in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

“I am confident that Jay will be a very thoughtful Board President and he will not take any decision lightly,” stated Beverly B. Mills, outgoing Kent Place President of the Board of Trustees. “Everybody respects Jay and he and his family have always been extremely committed to Kent Place School. As President, I know he will be an excellent leader of the Board and will work very well with all constituencies to help further Kent Place’s mission.”

McGraw has served on the board of directors of the Business Press Education Foundation, the Alliance for Audited Media, American Business Media, The New York Building Congress and the Society of American Military Engineers.  He also served for 10 years on The McGraw-Hill Companies Pension Investment Committee and is chairman of the Millburn-Short Hills Historic Preservation Commission.

McGraw holds a BA from the University of Denver and an MBA from Fordham University. He and his wife Jane are the proud parents of three daughters – Kent Place 2012 and 2014 graduates and a rising junior.
